Pallet entry and exit openings are sized to the pallet dimensions plus conveyor width tolerances — typically 1200mm × 1200mm for standard euro/GMA pallets, wider for double-pallet or bulk configurations. Safety light curtains or physical tunnel guards are installed at these openings to maintain the safety zone without requiring the guard to be opened for pallet transfer.
Yes, in most cases. Pallet openings are too large to be left as unguarded pass-throughs under ISO 13857 reach distance requirements. Safety light curtains (Type 4, Category 3/PLd or higher) are mounted at the opening to detect presence and stop the robot if a person reaches into the opening during operation. Muting sequences allow pallets to pass through without tripping the curtain.
Palletizing robots often operate at heights of 2400mm or higher. Guard panels typically match the robot's maximum reach height, commonly 2400mm for standard floor-mounted palletizers. Gantry palletizers may require overhead guard structures that span 3000–4000mm. Modular Solutions sizes each guard to the specific robot model's maximum reach envelope.
Yes. The guard perimeter can be sized to enclose both the palletizing robot and an in-cell stretch wrapper — turntable, rotary arm, or orbital styles. The guard layout includes safety zones around the wrapper's rotating arm, and the cell footprint accounts for pallet accumulation space inside the enclosure.
Welded wire mesh panels are the most common choice for palletizing robot guards — they provide visibility, structural rigidity, ventilation, and cost efficiency for the large panel areas required by high-reach palletizing cells. Polycarbonate panels are used on lower sections where closer operator visibility is needed, such as near HMI access points and manual load stations.
