Are fabrication tables safe to use for welding operations?

Yes. Fabrication tables are designed specifically for welding. The steel surface accepts ground clamps directly. A dedicated welding ground lug on the table frame provides a low-resistance path to welding ground and electrically isolates the welding circuit from the aluminum T-slot extrusion frame — preventing arc damage to the aluminum. The open base frame design prevents heat buildup under the surface during extended welding operations.

How do T-slot fixture channels work on a steel fabrication table surface?

5/8"-11 T-slot channels are machined into the 1/4" or 3/8" steel plate surface at 6-inch spacing. Welding clamps, toggle clamps, stop blocks, angle plates, and V-blocks with T-bolt bases attach in any position without drilling. Fixtures are repositioned between weld runs without tools. The T-slot channels are cleaned of spatter and debris with a stiff brush between setups — they do not require the cleaning cycle of magnetic hold-down systems.

How is weld spatter managed on a fabrication table?

Hot-rolled steel plate surfaces are specified at mill scale finish — the natural oxide layer that resists spatter adhesion. Anti-spatter spray applied to the surface before welding further reduces adhesion. Spatter that does adhere is removed with a chipping hammer or angle grinder without damaging the surface. The open base frame allows spatter and slag that falls through T-slot channels to be swept out without disassembling the table.

Can a fabrication table surface be resurfaced or replaced when worn?

Yes. Steel plate surfaces are attached to the aluminum frame with T-bolt hold-down clamps at four to six positions around the perimeter. When the surface is excessively worn, pitted, or distorted from heat, the hold-down clamps are released and the steel plate is lifted off and replaced with a new plate. The T-slot frame is unaffected and does not need replacement. Surface replacement takes 30 to 60 minutes for a single technician.

Are fabrication tables available with a plasma cutter drop-through opening?

Yes. A plasma cutter drop-through zone is a defined area of the table surface where the steel plate has a series of parallel slots or a grid pattern cut into it. Plasma cutting or oxyfuel cutting is performed over this zone, allowing the cut kerf to drop through into a replaceable slag tray below the surface. The drop-through zone is specified at the design phase by location and size based on the typical cutting area.
