Lighting-Integrated Benches
Modular aluminum workstation benches with LED task and area lighting built into the overhead T-slot frame structure — delivering consistent, high-quality illumination directly at the work surface for inspection, precision assembly, and applications where ambient facility lighting is insufficient or variable. Designed and manufactured in Auburn Hills, MI.
Why Choose Modular Solutions for Lighting-Integrated Benches?
Purpose-built illumination at the work surface — consistent, controllable, and independent of ambient conditions.
Modular aluminum T-slot workstations bolt together without welding and reconfigure without tools — giving you a purpose-engineered station today that adapts through every process change, product launch, and kaizen event without capital reinvestment in new furniture.
LED Bar Light Mounting
24V LED bar lights mount to overhead T-slot crossbars and aim directly at the work surface — intensity and beam angle configurable per application.
Under-Shelf Lighting
LED strip lights mount under shelf panels to illuminate the surface directly below — eliminating shadows cast by overhead shelves in multi-tier configurations.
Color Temperature Selection
Neutral white (4000K) for general assembly, cool white (5000K–6500K) for color-critical inspection, and tunable CCT options for applications requiring both.
Dimmer Control
In-line dimmer switches mount to the T-slot upright at operator reach — allowing light level adjustment for different task types without external electrical modification.
Magnifier Light Integration
Articulating magnifier lights with LED ring illumination mount to the T-slot uprights for close-tolerance inspection and fine assembly operations.
Wiring Channel Management
Light wiring routes through internal T-slot channels to a single rear-mounted power connection — no exposed conduit on the work surface or in the operator zone.
Lighting-Integrated Benches Applications
Applied wherever consistent task illumination improves quality, reduces errors, or is required by process specification.
- Visual Inspection Stations — Inspection benches with 5000–6500K overhead LEDs providing consistent high-CRI illumination for color comparison, surface defect detection, and dimensional verification.
- Electronics Assembly — ESD-safe benches with IPC-A-610 compliant illumination levels (≥1000 lux at surface) for PCB assembly, component placement verification, and solder joint inspection.
- Precision Assembly — Close-tolerance sub-assembly benches where under-shelf LEDs eliminate shadows in the active assembly zone and overhead lights provide background field illumination.
- Quality Control Benches — QC stations with tunable color temperature for visual color matching against reference standards in controlled illumination conditions.
- Medical Device Assembly — Cleanroom-compatible lit benches with smooth-surface LED fixtures (no particle traps) for device assembly operations requiring documented illumination levels.
- Packaging & Label Inspection — End-of-line inspection stations with consistent LED illumination for label legibility check, seal integrity inspection, and cosmetic defect detection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about lighting-integrated benches design and configuration.
What illumination level do I need for inspection work?
IPC-A-610 requires a minimum of 1,000 lux (approximately 93 foot-candles) at the inspection surface for electronics assembly and inspection. General manufacturing assembly typically requires 500 to 800 lux. Modular Solutions can calculate the number and placement of LED fixtures needed to achieve any specified illumination level at the stated surface height and bench dimensions.
Can lights be added to an existing Modular Solutions bench?
Yes. If the existing bench has a rear T-slot upright extending above the work surface, LED crossbar fixtures can be added by inserting a crossbar connector and LED bar fixture into the existing T-slot. Wiring routes through the upright channel to a rear outlet. Retrofit lighting kits are available for most standard frame configurations.
Are the fixtures cleanroom compatible?
Cleanroom-compatible LED fixtures with smooth housings, no exposed fasteners in the light path, and sealed lenses are available for ISO Class 5–8 environments. These fixtures are also suitable for washdown applications when the IP54-rated version is specified.
Can color temperature be changed after installation?
Tunable CCT fixtures can be adjusted from warm white (3000K) to cool daylight (6500K) using an in-line control mounted to the T-slot upright. Fixed color temperature fixtures require replacement if the CCT needs to change. Modular Solutions recommends tunable CCT fixtures for any application where lighting requirements may evolve.
Is the lighting wiring integrated into the frame or surface-run?
Wiring for T-slot-mounted LED fixtures routes through the internal hollow channels of the T-slot extrusion to a rear-mounted power supply and outlet. This eliminates all exposed wiring in the work zone and operator area. The only visible wiring is the power cable from the station to the wall outlet.
