Gravity Roller Lane System

Precision-diameter nylon or steel rollers set in aluminum channel at a calculated incline angle. Roller diameter, pitch, and lane angle are specified per container to ensure reliable advance from load end to pick end across the full container weight range at all loading levels.

UHMW Smooth Channel Option

Low-friction UHMW polyethylene channel lanes replace rollers for lightweight containers where roller contact creates instability or noise. Smooth channels are quieter, require zero maintenance, and accommodate non-flat-bottom containers that would not track reliably on rollers.

Adjustable Lane Dividers

T-slot-mounted lane dividers set lane width for each part family. Dividers slide and lock at any position along the cross rail, allowing lane widths to be set at the design stage and modified in the field as container sizes change without replacing the cart frame.

Front End Stop and Brake

Each lane includes a front end stop bracket that holds the lead container in the pick position under gravity load. End stops are adjustable for container height and include a slight upward ramp that decelerates the lead container for gentle stopping without tipping.

Rear Loading Gate Option

For carts operating in high-volume replenishment environments, a rear loading gate allows stock to be loaded from the back of the cart without moving the cart or accessing the front pick face. Gate hardware mounts to the T-slot uprights and is removable for carts where rear access is not required.

Standard shelf carts allow material to be stored at any position and accessed in any order — there is no mechanical enforcement of rotation sequence. FIFO flow carts physically separate loading and picking positions, using gravity to advance material from the load end to the pick end automatically. The operator at the pick end always accesses the oldest material regardless of load sequence.

Can FIFO flow carts handle heavy containers?

Yes. For heavier containers, roller lane specifications are adjusted: larger diameter rollers reduce rolling resistance, higher-capacity roller bearings support the load, and lane angle may be reduced for slower, more controlled advance. For very heavy containers, retarding rollers or brake strips can be added to the lane to slow the advance speed and prevent front-end impacts.

How many containers fit per lane?

Lane depth determines the number of containers per lane. We size lane depth to hold at least one full replenishment cycle's worth of containers so the operator always has stock available between replenishment deliveries. Typical designs accommodate two to four containers per lane to provide buffer without excessive inventory at the line.

Can FIFO lanes be mixed with flat storage on the same cart?

Yes. T-slot frame carts can combine FIFO roller lanes on some tiers with flat shelf storage on other tiers. Flat tiers handle items that do not require FIFO rotation — tools, documentation, accessories — while FIFO tiers handle date-sensitive or rotation-required materials. The combination is designed at the cart level with shelf tiers and lane tiers using the same T-slot upright mounting system.
