Skate wheel rail has a lower installed height than roller track — typically 22mm to 40mm versus 50mm to 75mm for roller track. This compact profile allows higher tier density in multi-tier rack configurations and fits in space-constrained lane geometries where roller track height clearance is not available.

Choose skate wheel rails over roller track when: the container is light (under 30kg), the container base is soft, flexible, or corrugated and deflects between widely-spaced rollers, the lane incline must be shallow (under 3 degrees), vertical clearance for multi-tier is limited, or the environment requires a non-ferrous contact surface. Roller track is preferred for containers over 30kg, rigid container bases, and applications requiring brake rollers for speed control.
Skate wheel rails can function on inclines as shallow as 1.5 degrees (approximately 26mm drop per 1000mm of lane depth) for light containers up to 10kg. For containers up to 30kg, a 2 to 4 degree incline is typical. The actual minimum incline depends on container weight, wheel diameter, wheel pitch, and surface cleanliness. Yes. Steel skate wheel rails with galvanized or powder-coated rail frames are suitable for covered outdoor environments. For fully exposed outdoor applications, stainless steel axles and UV-stabilized polypropylene wheels are specified. Polypropylene wheels may become brittle in sustained sub-zero temperatures; nylon wheels are substituted for cold outdoor applications. All outdoor installations should include a top rail cover to prevent debris accumulation on the wheel surfaces.
Rail sections butt-join with a splice plate or internal connector that aligns the rail profile and maintains continuous wheel-line contact across the joint. The splice connector is captured in the rail channel and secured with a set screw. Properly joined sections provide a smooth transition without a step or gap that would catch container edges at the joint.
Yes. Individual replacement wheels and axle kits are available for all standard skate wheel rail series. Wheels are press-fit or clip onto the axle and can be replaced individually without removing the rail section from the rack. A lane can be maintained by replacing single worn wheels as they fail rather than replacing the entire rail section, significantly reducing maintenance cost per lane over the rack service life.
