Unlike a fixed robot cell enclosure that surrounds the robot, a Mobile Robot or AMR enclosure defines the infrastructure zone — the docking station, charging station, load exchange area, and staging buffer where the AMR interacts with fixed equipment or human operators. This enclosure provides a defined safe boundary for the interaction zone, separates AMR traffic from general floor activity, and protects charging and docking infrastructure from forklift and pedestrian impacts.
Modular Solutions designs the enclosure perimeter with pre-engineered docking cutouts or sliding panels that align with the AMR's physical docking interface. Clearances are verified from the AMR manufacturer's mechanical drawings. The docking opening is typically sized to the AMR body width plus a tolerance margin, with guide rails or floor channels to direct the AMR precisely to the dock. Electrical pass-throughs for charging contacts can be integrated into the framing at the docking face.
Yes. Modular Solutions AMR enclosures can be configured with quick-release panel systems — quarter-turn fastener retention or sliding panel tracks that allow full panel removal without tools. This is particularly useful for maintenance access to charging infrastructure, cable management, and docking hardware. Panels are designed to be reinstalled by a single operator without special equipment, and the modular system maintains alignment repeatability between panel removals.
The enclosure perimeter provides physical separation between the AMR operating zone and general floor traffic. Standard infill options include heavy-gauge wire mesh for visibility into the zone, solid aluminum panels for high-impact forklift environments, and safety yellow powder coat finish for high-visibility demarcation. Pedestrian entry gates with self-closing mechanisms and the AMR's native safety sensing work together to manage access — the enclosure defines the zone boundary; the AMR's sensors manage collision avoidance within it.
AMR enclosures are anchored at post base plates using concrete anchors. Unlike fixed robot cell guards, AMR infrastructure enclosures may need to accommodate floor-mounted charging contacts or guide strips; Modular Solutions coordinates floor cutout locations from the AMR manufacturer's installation drawings. Base frame profiles can be surface-mounted or recessed depending on floor flatness requirements. Non-permanent installation using weighted base feet is available for facilities that cannot core into the floor slab.
